What is Writing Clinic?

Are you writing a novel or short fiction?

I help writers to deepen their writing and approach it as a meaningful exploration, rather than just as a technical exercise. I feel that it’s crucial to be able to talk about your work, to explain what you’re trying to achieve and to engage in a supportive dialogue. And because dialogue is so important I only offer face-to-face feedback and mentoring, either in person or on Zoom, backed up by email.

Services I offer:

Manuscript appraisal:

This includes a free initial meeting to discuss your project and for you to decide if we’re a good match. If we agree, I will read your entire manuscript, and give verbal feedback and a written summary on all the major elements of writing like narrative time and arc, plot and character development, as well as on technical aspects like dialogue, sense of place, point of view, flashback, use of tenses, etc. I will also annotate and comment on the script using Track Changes as I go along. When you are ready to submit, I can help with your synopsis and cover letter for no additional charge. I charge by the number of words so if you send me the word count I can give you a quote in advance. My charges are based on £10 per thousand words and £40 per hour for face-to-face or Zoom meetings. (Example: A 100,000 word novel will usually cost around £1080.)

One–to–ones:

If you are working on short pieces, you can send me up to 5000 words and I will provide written overall feedback and detailed annotations, and up to an hour of face-to-face or Zoom tutorial time for £120.

Ongoing mentoring: 

This is based on a discounted one to one rate for multiple bookings, and can be arranged by negotiation depending on how many sessions you require and where you are with your project. I can offer a free meeting to discuss your needs and give you a quote before you decide.
